A long-products mill asked us to quote alumina pour-cups for a new tundish line last spring. The duty cycle was outside our standard grade's envelope and we said so — recommended a yttria-stabilised zirconia shape from a competitor. They placed that order elsewhere. They came back to us this autumn for a different application, with a brief that started with the words "we trust you to tell us straight."
An EV-battery customer's atomising line went down on a Friday afternoon in February. The replacement nozzle was a 99.9% alumina geometry we hold in Kidderminster. It was on a courier within ninety minutes, on the line by Saturday lunchtime, and producing cathode powder by Monday morning. The customer's line down-time would have been measured in weeks if we'd had to call the manufacturer.
One French customer reached their thirty-second year of trading with us in 2025. The first invoice was for £1,400 of refractory shapes. The most recent was for €180,000 of zirconia components for a continuous-casting upgrade. The salesperson signing both has changed three times across that span; the technical relationship has not.
A French foundry needed a non-standard mullite shape with a six-week deadline. Our French team scoped the geometry; our UK team shipped a sample blank from stock for trial machining; the manufacturer in central Europe approved a production run by week three. The customer never had to translate a technical drawing or speak to a manufacturer's English-only export desk.
Technical integrity, the willingness to take a slow phone call, and a habit of staying when the work gets specialised — these are the qualities we look for in the people we add to the team.
Tell us what you're specifying. We'll tell you whether we're the right partner — and whether our material is the right material. Plainly, either way.
